SURFRIDER FOUNDATION UPDATE:
On April 3, 2002, the City Council of Asbury Park
voted to 'permit surfing off the city's beaches between
5:00 p.m. and sunset and from sunrise to 9:00 a.m.
during the time of year that beach badges or passes
are required.'

Not only does this violate recreational provisions put
forth in the Public Trust Doctrine, this will DO LITTLE
TO ALLEVIATE THE OVERCROWDING in surf
breaks around Asbury Park! City Council cannot close
city beaches to surfing and other recreational activities;
promoting these activities could prove to be a lucrative
part of Asbury Park's revitalization efforts.

Join us at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17th for the next
City Council meeting where we will continue pressing for
a new Ordinance designating at least one surfing beach
during daylight hours in-season. The meeting will be held
in the Council Chambers at the Asbury Park Municipal
Complex on Main Street (Rt. 71), near the train station.

Your Jersey Shore Chapter has been fighting for designated
surfing beaches in Asbury Park for years... we need your help!
Make a stand! Wear your Surfrider shirts and hats! Help bring
surfing back to Asbury Park!"

Now, the good news is that Council will allowing surfing on city
beaches off-season during daylight hours. Anyone interested in
surfing may do so...We are trying to organize a surfing contest
on Saturday and Sunday morning...Please check back on
Tuesday for more info. Please visit our table and tent at the
Street Scene to sign up....
